I'm Getting a Better Morning Routine.
I am not a morning person. I don't enjoy going to bed at normal hours, and I dislike waking up early. As someone who runs her own business, this isn't always a good thing. Some days, I get started late, and it throws off my entire day. I have to get a better morning routine to get everything done. Building a good morning routine doesn't start with five or six things. It starts slowly, and you build up to the routine itself. First, I begin with making sure I have a set wake up time. Whatever that time is, I need to stick with it every day. It helps to know how many hours of sleep my body needs. I am optimal on 6 1/2 - 7 hours of sleep each night. I can function fine with 6 or even 5 1/2. Anything below that, and I'm dragging ass the rest of the day. I have a set time for me to go to sleep, and a set time to wake up now.
Once the wake up time is sorted, I will take a moment to reflect on what the day is bringing. For me, that is taking time with a devotional and prayer. For others, that may be a moment of mindfulness, meditation, prayer or setting an intention for your day.
I have my morning habits. Put on my contact lenses, brush and floss my teeth, drag myself to the kitchen and fix my cafe Bustelo. By the time I am halfway through the cup, I am finally awake. I am sure many of you can relate to that moment where a cup of bold, caffeinated goodness is your wake-up call. What if something else gets me moving first?
I will not forsake my morning jolt of coffee. I will get myself moving before that. Doing some yoga or a quick workout after I take my devotional time will give me some energy for the day!
Then, it is time to set some basic rules for myself. Things like no phone or social media before my coffee. Social media is a torrent of information that hits us all at once. No one needs that overload before we've had a chance to truly start our day. The second rule is to make my bed before I leave the room. It isn't a big one, but it is nice to peek at a made up bed and snuggle into sheets you don't have to adjust at night time.
